Vintage Marijuana Paperbacks
During the the 1950s, the literature responsible for the covers featured below, functioned as the primary form of drug education for Americans. The use of drugs, the pulps taught, was an activity carried out by only the lowliest of denizens. The attack on “addicts” was widespread, not merely focusing on what we today consider harsh drugs, but also cannabis.

Where have all of the marijuana girls gone?
Wow. Just…wow. I’ve seen some of these before, but the images were smaller. I knew I had them in my photobucket, but I just looked for them and… mysteriously, they’ve been removed. The directory I had them in is now empty. HMMM… http://s269.photobucket.com/albums/jj48/phillydrifter/drugs/cannabis/Govt%20Response/ no ‘image violated terms of use,’ nothin’. Just *poof* they disappeared.
It’d be cool to have some of these on the bookshelf.
High Yar!!!
the same blond girl is in like more than half of them… what a stoner!
my marijuana looks NOTHING like that!
I guess the government not only wanted to brainwash america about the “ill effects” of marijuana, but also degrade women as sluttly dope heads as well
The Reefer Club! Count me in!
Arielle is right – the ill-informed propaganda about weed is just laughable but what gets me is the fact that all these covers feature underdressed, oversexualized women who are apparently being led, joint by joint, into lives of unthinkable moral depravity (read: they have sex). Cos, you know, GOD FORBID a woman should have sexual intercourse with the consenting partner of her choice and actually enjoy it. The filthy tramp!
many ppl are familiar with reefer madness but few realize there were plenty of books available. im thinking of collecting them myself. great history.
